In honor of Black History Month, NJ's own news and media producer Black In Jersey published an article recognizing 13 New Jersey Black-owned media outlets to follow in 2024. Among the companies, More Jersey was recognized for our media contributions to New Jersey.
Publishers on the list were selected for providing a voice to black communities throughout New Jersey, including covering controversial topics, exposing diversity concerns, and creating a safe space for black content creators to thrive; while representing a level of media excellence.
Among the list of recognized NJ black media companies were:
- Echo Press/Echo News TV
- Front Runner New Jersey
- Ark Republic
- Atlantic City Focus
- Five Wards Media
- The Newark Times
- More Jersey
- Shelterforce
- We Are Jersey
- NJ Urban News
- The Trenton Journal
- Trenton365
This list should be truly celebrated, as most black publishers (NJ-based or otherwise) often face challenges other publication organizations are not faced with. Including funding (securing long standing advertisers) and the ability to recruit and retain qualified talent (from writers to support staff). Thankfully, there are an increasing number of programs dedicated to helping NJ black business and media outlets.
In the spirit of NJ media diversity, More Jersey will continue to provide content that informs, connects, and inspires New Jersey's Black community, with resources including the publishing of the annual More Jersey Black History Month Calendar.
The future of New Jersey Black media is evolving and More Jersey is proud to be among the organizations participating in its ascension and unification.
Take part in the New Jersey minority media movement by supporting a black-owned media organization. The company and community will thank you for it.
