Event Description

Art provides insights into the experiences of the artist and the tone and tenor of their life. In addition, art shows the significance of perspective.

Some of the featured artworks focus on community, family, and neighborhood while others deal with the culture particular to African Americans such as the civil rights movement and progressing towards freedom.

With featured artwork from black artists like Beverly McCutcheon, Jeff Brooks, Steve Green, Tino F. Cook, Maria Luis Estrela, and Kaaren Patterson, the issues presented are able to be transformed into powerful statements about society.

NJ Proudly Celebrates

Black History Month is an annual observance in February that celebrates the achievements and contributions of African Americans to American history, culture, and society. Established in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson; Black History Month reflects on the struggles, highlights the triumphs, and provides inspiration to future generations.
